Djelic: Application for candidate status will be filed in 2009

‘The Government’s Council for European integration suggested that filing of application for the EU membership until the end of the year is discussed with the European partners’, Serbia Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said for ‘Blic’ yesterday. According to his words Serbia shall not file the application without agreement with the European partners.
‘The Government’s priority is a consensus within the EU over the SAA and filing of the application for the candidate status’, Djelic says. The Ambassador of Sweden to Serbia Krister Bringeus said that ‘Serbian Government has to decide when it shall file application for the candidacy for the EU membership’ and that he was sure that ‘it shall make a wise decision’. Djelic said to have talked on Friday with Swedish Foreign minister Carl Bildt who shall operationally lead the Sweden’s chairing the EU regarding submission of application for the candidacy. ‘Our partners expect from us responsibility in filing the application’, Djelic said.
